EMDR Therapy for Trauma, PTSD, Anxiety and ADHD
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing Therapy
EMDR treatment, or Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing therapy, is a type of therapy that is used in individual therapy to helpĀ process and heal from traumatic events. This type of therapy is based on the idea that our brains have a natural ability to process and heal from traumatic experiences, but sometimes this process can be disrupted. EMDR therapy helps to unblock this process and allow individuals to fully process and heal from their traumatic experiences.
The therapy is typically conducted in 8-12 weekly sessions depending on the needs of the client. During each session, the trained therapist will guide the individual through a series of eye movements or other forms of bilateral stimulation (such as tapping) while the individual focuses on a specific traumatic memory. This process is believed to help the brain process and integrate the traumatic memory, allowing the individual to move past it and heal.
EMDR therapy has been shown to be effective in treating a variety of mental health conditions, including post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), anxiety, and depression. It is also used to help individuals cope with other traumatic experiences, such as sexual or physical abuse, car accidents, and natural disasters.
One of the benefits of EMDR therapy is that it can be a more efficient form of therapy compared to traditional talk therapy. This is because it directly addresses the traumatic memories and helps to process them in a way that talk therapy may not be able to. Additionally, EMDR therapy is believed to work by addressing both the emotional and cognitive aspects of a traumatic experience, which can be more effective than addressing just one aspect.
